Type 2 Diabetes

Every year 910,000 people die from diabetes in the Philippines. As of 2nd quarter of 2023, 85% of Filipinos over 35 years old will be at risk of type 2 diabetes and 37% of them will die by age 70. That is a terrible number that warrants warning people to pay attention to their health.

If you have the following complications due to diabetes:
  • Blurred Vision o Panlalabo ng Mata
  • Nocturia (getting up from sleep to urinate frequently o madalas na pag-ihi sa gabi)
  • Nerve issues
  • Numbness in the limbs (Pamamanhid ng braso o binti)
  • Loss of appetite (Kawalan ng gana) and
  • Frequent fatigue (Madalas at madaling kapaguran)
This shows that your health is getting worse and worse and other dangerous complications are likely to occur such as:
  1. Cardiovascular effects
  2. Liver and Kidney failure and can even cause death due to heart failure and stroke.
The good news is that Hemo Lab Philippines Inc., is offering a free Urine and Blood Sugar Test to the residents of Taytay Rizal and offering free Glucose monitors to diabetic patients from April 15- June 30 th 2024.

What is Type 2 Diabetes?
Type 2 diabetes affects how your body uses sugar (glucose) for energy. It stops the body from using insulin properly, which can lead to high levels of blood sugar, if not treated.

Over time, type 2 diabetes can cause serious damage to the body, especially nerves and blood vessels.

Type 2 diabetes is often preventable (madalas naiiwasan). Factors that contribute to developing type 2 diabetes include being overweight, not getting enough exercise, and genetics.

Early diagnosis is important (Mahalaga ang maagang kaalaman) to prevent the worst effects of type 2 diabetes. The best way to detect diabetes early is to get regular check-ups and blood tests with a healthcare provider.

What is Blurred vision?
Blurred vision can be caused by eye conditions, including: difficulty focusing your eyesight, such as with near-sightedness or far-sightedness, astigmatism (when the surface of the eye isn't curved properly), presbyopia (when your eyes find it harder to focus as you age), and dry eye syndrome.

What is Nocturia?
Nocturia is defined as the need for a patient to get up at night on a regular basis to urinate. A period of sleep must precede and follow the urinary episode to count as a nocturnal void.

What are Nerves?
Nerves are like cables that carry electrical impulses between your brain and the rest of your body. These impulses help you feel sensations and move your muscles. They also maintain certain autonomic functions like breathing, sweating or digesting food. Nerve cells are also called neurons.

What is Numbness?
Numbness is due to a problem with the nerves sending signals to the brain. You can experience numbness anywhere in your body, but it's most commonly felt in the fingers, hands, feet, arms,
or legs. You might also feel a tingling, prickling, or 'pins and needles.

What is Appetite?
Decreased appetite (bumabang gana sa pag kain) is often seen in older adults. Often, no physical cause is found. Emotions such as sadness, depression, or grief can lead to a loss of
appetite. Cancer can also cause decreased appetite.

What is Frequent Fatigue?
Most of the time fatigue can be traced to one or more lifestyle issues, such as poor sleep habits or lack of exercise. Fatigue can be caused by a medicine or linked to depression. Sometimes fatigue is a symptom of an illness that needs treatment.
